Have a nomination for a jaw-dropping listing that would make a mighty fine House of the Day? Get thee to the tipline and send us your suggestions. We'd love to see what you've got.
Location: San Diego, California
Price: $3,195,000
The tide may be turning against open-concept homes, but free-flowing living is still very much the modus operandi of this striking San Diego modern abode. Half of "2inns" (pronounced "twins"), two identical houses designed by local practice Sebastian Mariscal Studio in 2006, the home overlooking the Pacific Ocean was featured on the front cover of Dwell in 2009. In that story, Mariscal described the residence as a "big deck with a canopy." Indeed, the core of the 4,000-square-foot house is an expansive cement-floored living/dining/kitchen area that can transform into an outdoor space in minutes, thanks to retractable 25-panel glass NanaWalls on three sides.
The upper level, entirely decked out in hardwood floors, contains three ensuite bedrooms, one of which, the master, features a petite, triangular patio. Beneath the main floor holds enough room for a three-car garage, wine cellar, and concrete-floored family room that connects a rear courtyard to the verdant front yard.
According to Dwell , Mariscal had claimed one of the twins for his family. This one, just listed for $3.2M, looks rather too barren to be the Dwell-featured Mariscal residence (several shots from the story are included below), which certainly showcases the potential of the design.
