Churchill Downs is planning a series of upgrades and renovations of the famous racetrack's premium seating areas, set to be completed in time for the next running of the Kentucky Derby in May. The $18 million plan will increase premium seating capacity to 2,660 from 1,886, bringing to total amount of reserved seating at the venue to 58,654. It's part of recent reinvestments by owners to modernize and expand the track; nearly $70M has been invested, in response to recent record crowds that reached more than 170,000 fans this past spring. A spokesman said this move is "modernizing the modernizations," and additions such as the Turf Club Roses Lounge certainly look designed to appeal to the high rolling race fan.
