Jumbo Wooden Megaphones Create Surround-Sound in Nature

At this very moment, three giant wooden megaphones are sitting in an Estonian forest, amplifying the sounds of nature. The idea came from Estonian Academy of Arts student Birgit Õigus, who roped in a few classmates and Hannes Praks, architect and head of the Interior Architecture Department at the school, to install the trio of three-meter (almost 10 feet) wide megaphones in close proximity.

"We'll be placing the three megaphones at such a distance and at a suitable angle, so at the centre of the installation, sound feed from all three directions should create a unique merged surround sound effect," Praks told Contemporist. Audio-wizardry aside, the structures can also serve as rad lounge spots or micro performance venues.
