Originally a commercial building in a frighteningly decrepit state, this structure in Bangkok, Thailand, has been transformed into a stunning home and office for a joint family of four brothers and sisters (and their respective future families). Local firm IDIN Architects packs in the best of modern living while following certain norms of traditional eastern living. The spatial arrangement is essentially several houses within a house, each unit designed to function independently, stacked on top of one another other with a shared common living space. The facade follows the divisions within, giving the dwelling's exterior a cool, geometric appearance. In a nod to another classic eastern residential design feature, the house also accommodates a planted courtyard. The courtyard also lets light into the interiors.
