Intimidating Concrete Wall Hides a Bright Modern Home

New, 1 comment

A family of four in northern Belgium wanted something "special" for their new home, and Ghent, Belgium-based firm Office O Architects delivered big time. Featuring a wave roof and large, sinuous concrete walls, including a hulking facade with just one narrow strip of glazing on a lower corner (hello, privacy!), the newly completed house looks more like bold arts institution than a private residence.

The avant-garde feel continues inside, where curving white walls and concrete floors create a gallery-like split-level space. Three minimalist floors are connected by a centerpiece staircase made of white metal treads and tensioned cable balustrades. The entrance, which is half a story lower than street level, overlooks a garden and pool. Take a look.
