Germany has opened the first portion of its superhighway for bicycles, paving the way (ha) for the rest to be completed once funding is in place. The highway is being referred to as the cyclists' autobahn, and will eventually span over 100km, connecting 10 cities and four universities. The first portion is only 5km. The route's developer needs another €180 million ($196 million), but estimates that once completed, the highway will take 50,000 cars off the road every day.
