How to 'hygge': Cozy home decor inspiration from Instagram

New, 2 comments

Winter is coming, so bring on the warm-fuzzies

If temperatures are starting to cool down where you live, it's time to get acquainted with the fabulous Danish concept of "hygge" (pronounced hoo-ga). Hygge essentially embraces the most romantic notion of cabin fever, one filled with glowing fire, satisfying drinks, good company, and an absolute ease.

Over the years, "hygge" (which has no direct translation in English) has been defined with phrases like "warm glow of candlelight," "tea served in a china set," "curling up on the sofa with a good book," "an emotional coziness," and so on. But words can only say so much. Instead, here are some dreamy, very hyggeligt (yep, that's the adjectival form of the word) Instagram shots to inspire you this winter, starting with candles, candles, and more candles!
