Zaha Hadid will soon be able to check another country off her list, once Casa Atlântica, her 11-story Rio de Janeiro building has risen on Copacabana Beach. The project is set to break ground in March, and will feature a fairly symmetrical design, with a facade of curving balconies. Hadid's firm describes it as continuing "the liberating composition and spatial flow inherent within Brazil's rich Modernist tradition, engaging with the unique tempo and vitality of Copacabana's urban beach culture, as well as the fluidity of its renowned Burle Marx promenade."
