Cities above and below: NYC's Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church

Amazing views of the city from 300 feet up

Curbed tagged along with Gerard Dowd, a Local 1 mechanic who’s part of the effort to restore the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, to see what the job takes.

Located in Midtown, the church was built in 1875 and is now undergoing a $9 million restoration process. Dowd had to overcome his fear of heights; the church’s spire reaches a grand 296 feet. A perk of getting to restore this awe-inspiring church is the chance to see unparalleled views of New York City and Fifth Avenue that nobody else can see.
