Yesterday, Chicago auction house Wright kicked off American Design, the glorious sale where lots include works by such illustrious designers as George Nelson, Ray & Charles Eames, Jens Risom, Harry Bertoia, Eero Saarinen, and more. On offer were tables, chairs, chaise lounges, and even a cute, circa-1960 pet carrier that went for $640.
The results are in and, as ever, there were a few surprises. A set of four steel-frame Eames DKR-1 chairs with blue covers, for example, was estimated to go for between $1,000–$1,500. The final result? Just 896 bucks. There are still quite a few lots that have gone unclaimed but bidding is closed. Interested in signing yourself up for the next round? Find out how to here.
