The recently opened Torchy's Tacos flagship in Austin, Texas may be the coolest new taco joint in these united states, thanks to a striking design channeling midcentury roadside architecture. Local firm Chioco Design gave the place a zigzaggy roofline propped up by bright red criss-crossing metal columns, a look that's sure to grab drivers' attention as they cruise down the city's busy South Congress Avenue.
As the architects tell Dezeen, the concept intentionally references "the archetypal 1950's-era drive-in diners." Inside though, the restaurant is bright, graphic, and modern, enlivened by profuse natural lighting, bright yellow pendant lights, and patterned floors.
