This Silicon Valley Hillside Home Was Designed for Easy Mobility

Making indoor-outdoor living a breeze for an elderly resident

It sounds counterintuitive, but this modern home built daringly on a steep hillside was actually designed for an elderly person with limited mobility. Completed by San Francisco-based firm Schwartz and Architecture, the 775-square-foot single-story home offers a simple floor plan that makes enjoying the stellar natural surroundings a breeze. The open-plan living, dining, and kitchen space takes advantage of wraparound glass walls with incredible mountain views.

That central area can directly access two bedrooms connected by a shared bathroom. The main living area also leads right out to the entry terrace, which features a huge oculus that brings in the breeze, light, and a bit of dynamic shading as it tracks the path of the sun throughout the day.
