Fab Modern Lake House in Austin is Half Cabin, Half Barn

It's all about maximizing the breeze, shade, and views

For a couple who moved from the Bay Area to Austin for a quieter, more rural lifestyle, local firm Lake|Flato Architects designed a modern house that was made for breezy, lakefront living in the hot Texas sun. Already blessed with natural shading from oak and pecan trees on site, the two-story, L-shaped house by Lake Austin features an extensive covered porches and walkways, plus glass doors that open up main living areas and bedrooms to the outside and terraces for additional outdoor lounging. The airy, barn-like living and kitchen area, which has a lofted office and bedroom, enjoys prime lake views via soaring glass walls. Dwell has the full tour.
