Shipping Containers Become Daring Vineyard Lookout Tower

Contain yourself

The unglamorous shipping container continues its advance into modern architecture: Aussie firm Cumulus Studio just unveiled a striking container lookout tower and wine-tasting facility in Apslawn, Tasmania, further showcasing the versatility of the material. Compared to the shipping container homes, apartments, restaurants, and research centers we've seen before, this design is a bit more discreet and deconstructed.

The vertical component, most of which is covered by wood, features intersecting containers that frame incredible views of the natural landscape. Meanwhile, the darker horizontal portion also features a container that juts out to direct views towards the sky. According to the architects, the more or less timber-clad complex is supposed to read as a modern take on traditional rural settlements.
