This may be one of our favorite smart home devices we've come across yet—a fire alarm that sends a text message when it detects smoke. It also comes with an alarm, of course (how else would you know when you are trying to cook food?) but it's an alarm that you can disable from your phone instead of the standard method of standing on a chair, prying the alarm open, taking the battery out, and never putting it back in. Also, the alarm will alert you via text when it detects smoke while you are outside the apartment, which, since it's unlikely that you are cooking during that time, seems like a good time to be worried about it.
