Gabled Japanese Farmhouse Is Mod Twist on a Traditional Barn

It's lovely

We've seen a fair number of former agricultural buildings turned into gorgeous contemporary homes, like this barn that was transformed into an eco-conscious smart home or these mews turned into luxury homes in London.

This gabled house in the Japanese city of Atsugi (about an hour southwest of Tokyo), masterminded by local firm Kikkawa Architects in collaboaration with Hisashi Ikeda Architects, is a new build, but references barn design with its pitch-roofed profile and timber exterior. The interiors are open-plan, and feature a multi-use space, including a kitchen, a living and dining room, and a space with a traditional tatami mat floor. Take a look.
