Drake Is About to Start Building His Massive Toronto Mansion

First, he will have to tear down a nice bit of local architecture

Rapper Drake appears to be on the verge of building a massive 21,000-square-foot mansion in the Bridle Path area of his hometown of Toronto. Bridle Path is known for its mansions, but few will reach the scale of Drake's, which plans say will include a rooftop hot tub, indoor basketball court, and separate rooms to store champagne and wine.

Drake purchased the property through a shell company for $6.7 million last September (apparently having learned his lesson after purchasing his last two properties under his own name). Several aspects of the plans are larger than city bylaws allow, so they will have to presented to the North York committee of adjustment next week, on May 26, to ask for variances.

Although minor aspects of the design could change, it certainly looks like this mansion is getting built, as Globe and Mail architecture critic Alex Bozikovic recently posted a picture of a Minor Variance from the Zoning By-law to tear down the existing house on the property and build a new one.
