The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has kicked off its annual awards season by announcing the winners of its 2016 RIBA London Awards. From a crop of 68 nominees, 36 winners were chosen from the capital's four territories: north, south, east, and west. Winners include a mix of homes and housing developments, commercial spaces, and educational and cultural centers.
These projects and winners from the rest of the regional awards will be considered for the prestigious RIBA National Awards in July, and that winner will then go on to be considered in the fall for the organization's highest honor, the RIBA Stirling Prize. The late, great Zaha Hadid won two years in a row, in 2010 and 2011, for her MAXXI Museum in Rome, and the Evelyn Grace Academy in London, respectively.
