If you have ever had issues with an obstinate, uncaring landlord, take solace in the fact that you still probably didn’t have it as bad as the world’s best athletes, many of whom have arrive in Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 Summer Olympics to find that their living quarters are... less than ideal.
The Australians are the ones making the most noise about the alleged un-livability of the Olympic Village, with chef de mission in Rio de Janeiro for the Australian Olympic Committee Kitty Chiller (perfect Australian name) complaining of "blocked toilets, leaking pipes and exposed wiring" as well as "water [that] has come through the ceiling resulting in large puddles on the floor around cabling and wiring." Chiller says that Britain, New Zealand, and other countries are experiencing similar problems. All of that is too bad for the athletes, but at least it puts our landlord’s refusal to address the mold in the bathroom into perspective.
Also, at least our landlord doesn’t insult us to the press when we complain about problems in our apartments.
