There is an semi-abandoned replica of Paris in China and it’s incredible

The project might not have gone as planned, but it makes a great backdrop for a music video

The city of Tianducheng on the outskirts of Hangzhou, China was built starting in 2000, with a replica Eiffel Tower and sculptures and fountains designed to make it look like Paris. Things apparently didn’t go entirely as planned and it was abandoned for a time (although recently housing sales have started to pick up), but it does make for an incredible backdrop for a music video. Romain Gavras recently directed the video for Jamie XX’s "Gosh" there, using tons of extras and no special effects, and the result is quite a lot of haunting ghost-city imagery, made even more odd by the fact that it looks like it was filmed in Paris.
