This dreamy 18th-century riad, or traditional Moroccan house, was lovingly restored by London-based interior designer Lisa Burke and is available to rent for your next holiday to the ancient medina of Essaouira (formerly Mogador).
Called Five Columns, the four-story 200-year-old house is located in the Chabanat area, (famous for its textile workshops) and offers four ensuite bedrooms that accommodate up to eight people. Social spaces include two roof terraces with an outdoor kitchen and bar, as well as two salon rooms with fireplaces.
But it’s the traditional dwelling’s original details that take this vacation home to the next level. Handsome sand stone columns, weathered thuya wood ceilings, and the bold black-and-white tiling of the ground floor imbue the white-walled interiors with heft and history. And as suspected, the decoration scheme is equal parts rustic and refined. Head here to book your Moroccan getaway and gawk at all that Five Columns has to offer.
