Just ahead of Valentine’s Day—and a spring and summer full of weddings to follow—furniture behemoth Ikea has launched a gift registry. The new service, available on the web and through Android and iOS apps (text “Registry” to 62345 to get a download link), is intended for all kinds of special occasions—from weddings and baby showers to new homes and back-to-school.
According to Ikea, this feature has been on customers’ wish lists “for years.” But, as we’ve seen, though the Swedish retailer is fast with unveiling new collections, it’s less so with embracing digital. In 2015, after realizing it was late to the e-commerce game, the company raced to make up to 90 percent of products available for purchase online.
There are a couple of ways to add items to a registry, including scanning product barcodes with the app in stores, or manually entering article numbers or choosing from a categorized product list. For folks making purchases, there’s also a “chip-in” feature for investment pieces and a gift card option, in addition to straight-up buying products online and in stores.
