Though the Coachella Valley is best known for its banner music festival, it’s also a secretly stellar spot for fans of design to ogle art and temporary architecture.

Right now, artist Doug Aitken’s “Mirage”—a low, mirror-clad house inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s residences—is in the spotlight, along with a host of other site-specific installations in a series dubbed Desert X. Mirage, aptly named in the Valley’s arid desert climate, reflects the craggy, windswept topography around it and the nearby San Jacinto Mountains.

Of course, where there is a trendy art installation, there are Instagrammers. We’ve rounded up the 9 best Instagrams of Mirage, which capture its simple beauty—and its stunning surroundings.

“Mirage” will run from now until October 31, but if you want to see the rest of the installations, book your travel fast: Desert X wraps up at the end of April.
