Modern furniture reinvents this traditional Venetian apartment

Located on the canals of Venice, the newly unveiled Casa Flora is a short-term holiday rental with a boutique hotel feel. Conceived by Diego Paccagnella, founder of furniture platform Design Apart, in collaboration with hotelier Gioele Romanelli, interior designer Laura Sari, and architect Matteo Ghidoni, Casa Flora showcases bespoke furniture from more than 20 Italian companies.

The apartment is all about putting a contemporary spin on traditional design. Venetian materials like palladiana terrazzo, treated briar wood, and Murano glass were put to stellar use by Sari and Ghidoni. A kitchen island with a green stone top, designed by TM Italia, references historical palazzi facades and church altars.

Social spaces and private quarters are divided. In the bedrooms, traditional Venetian architectural details like wood-framed windows, parquet floors, and fireplaces are contrasted with the modern, including colorful tables by Mingardo and 3D-printed lamps by Alessandro Zambelli and Lanzavecchia + Wai for ExNovo.
