Ikea is diving deep into the home tech depths, with news this past spring that the Swedish furniture powerhouse’s inexpensive new line of LED smart lighting, Trådfri, will soon be compatible with leading smart home ecosystems Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit. In May, a spokesperson for the company said in an email to Curbed that the integrations are “on track for the summer/early fall.”
While the product page for the Trådfri starter kit currently includes a note that tells customers to download the latest version of the app for compatibility with the three smart home ecosystems, the company recently indicated on its Facebook page that the integrations won’t, in fact, be ready until the fall.
In a release, Ikea Home Smart business leader Björn Block said that the company hopes to “challenge everything that is complicated and expensive with the connected home,” and “[make] it easier to interact with [a user’s] smart home products.” Sounds good to us.
