Location: Palm Springs, California

Price: $2,495,000

The Palm Springs estate of Pulitzer-winning author Herman Wouk, who published his last book at the age of 100 in 2016, is on the market for the first time in 40 years. In addition to Wouk’s storied residency, it was also the former home of actors Natalie Wood and Robert Wagner, from whom Wouk purchased the home for just under $1 million in 1983, according to SFGate.

Built in 1940, the 1.6-acre property not only includes a main rock house measuring over 5,000 square feet with six bedrooms and 6.5 baths, but also a three-bedroom-two-bath guest house with its own entrance and parking for three to four cars, yielding a total living area of nearly 7,000 square feet.

As impressive as these stats are, the house itself is more so. With a rustic exterior of stones, which also make an appearance inside, rough-hewn exposed beams, paver floors, original mullion windows, carved doors and shutters, multiple fireplaces, as well as original tile work and iron accents, all combine to create an enchanting, private setting stuck in time.

The grounds are special, too, as they nestle within “a gently rolling knoll” in the Mesa neighborhood, and boast a tennis court, the original pool with diving board, beautifully landscaped gardens, and 66 palm trees. Located at 303 West Crestview Drive, the property is on offer for just under $2.5 million.
