The castle was built in the 17th century by a Spanish nobleman and has lived many lives since, including a stint as a luxury hotel and bar. Though it’s gone through periods of abandonment, it’s never been forgotten thanks to the powers of Instagram and the hashtag #sammezzano, where the castle’s ornate design has been documented by many an aesthete.

The building covers an expansive 58,448 square feet, which includes the grounds and a park.
