Another midcentury modern home with architectural pedigree is on the market in New Canaan, Connecticut, and it just so happens to be on the same street as this gem by John Black Lee, the so-called sixth member of the Harvard Five.

Located on Chichester Road—literally next door to the DeSilver House—is this 1963 residence designed by James Evans, a student of Louis Kahn, who was a critic and professor at the Yale School of Architecture for many years. This tidbit leads us to speculate that there might have been a rivalry between the two neighbors (Harvard versus Yale, anyone?) but, again, that is pure speculation—even if it’s fun to think about.

As for the house itself, five bedrooms, four full bathrooms and one partial bath, spacious open-plan living quarters, and more unfurl across a 3,164-square-foot floorplan characterized by a gently sloping tongue-and-groove ceiling, floor-to-ceiling windows, and hardwood floors.

Though there have been updates throughout the years, a period-appropriate refresh—particularly in the kitchen and bathrooms—and new decor could bring the home back to its glory days. Still, the bones are strong and gorgeous and should remain that way for years to come. Plus, the residence is on three lush acres with trees, expansive lawns, and a pond. Who could argue with that? Located at 126 Chichester Road, it’s offered at $1,549,000.
