Just because tiny house dwellings have successfully co-opted the backyard shed’s utilitarian style doesn’t mean they can’t still offer a whole bunch of storage. This gorgeous 204-square-foot build from Samantha and Robert Garlow of SHEDsistence in Yakima, Washington, is one stellar example.
Built over the span of 14 months, the tiny house nicknamed “SHED” features a living area in the center, with a kitchen and lofted bed on one side, and a bathroom and “gear room” on the other.
That’s right: Usually tiny house dwellers want to maximize their living space, but for the Garlows, having dedicated storage for all their outdoor equipment was key to their tiny living happiness.
The gear room is approximately 24 square feet and is accessed via an external door. Other fab interior details include LED task lighting in the kitchen, a porcelain tile alcove in the shower, cable lighting system, and custom built-in shelving with a walnut outlet shroud.
Also impressive is how the couple managed to adapt the tiny home for the arrival of a baby. As seen on Inhabitat, the new baby led the couple to add a loft net and door (with its own opening for the family’s cat to traverse), and eventually a bedside crib.
