Michelangelo’s Tuscan villa on the market for $9.2M

The picturesque Tuscan farmhouse owned by one of humanity’s most celebrated painters (no, not the Ninja Turtle) has gone back on the market for €7.5 million ($9.2 million).

The property, which includes a tower built in 1047, was purchased 500 years later by painter Michelangelo—some 45 years after finishing the Sistine Chapel and during the time he was architect of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. The home remained in Michelangelo’s family for more than 300 years.

The home was most recently listed in 2016 for about $800,000 less. “The current owner has restored the property to accurately tell the rich historical account of this property,” reads the listing.

The 12,916-square-foot stone villa in Chianti, Tuscany, retains many original features including vaulted ceilings, wood-beam ceilings, and the kitchen’s original stone hearth. The home has 10 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms, and could be turned into a fairly fancy bed-and-breakfast. The property also comes with six acres of land including the sweet stone courtyard, 200 olive trees, and a mill.
