Earlier this week, Elon Musk tweeted to his followers that they should look out for new “merch” from Boring Company, the tunnel construction company Musk founded in 2016 with the goal of building high-speed transportation. In the past, Boring merchandise has been a mix of the totally normal (a hat) and the potentially dangerous (a flamethrower). Now you can add life-size Lego-like bricks to the list.
Musk says he plans to repurpose the earth excavated while drilling tunnels as jumbo earth bricks that can be used to construct sculptures and buildings. The bricks will click together like Lego blocks, only much bigger and much heavier. He explains that the bricks will be bored in the middle (very on brand) to reduce weight but will still be strong enough to withstand California earthquakes.
New Boring Company merch coming soon. Lifesize LEGO-like interlocking bricks made from tunneling rock that you can use to create sculptures & buildings. Rated for California seismic loads, so super strong, but bored in the middle, like an aircraft wing spar, so not heavy.

In response to a question about whether the brick could be used for affordable housing, Musk tweeted: “The boring bricks are interlocking with a precise surface finish, so two people could build the outer walls of a small house in a day or so.”
Yeah, the boring bricks are interlocking with a precise surface finish, so two people could build the outer walls of a small house in a day or so
