Hang with Curbed at SXSW!

And pick up a copy of our new book, too

Are you heading to South by Southwest? Do you love Curbed? Well then you’re in luck: Deputy editor Asad Syrkett will be on the ground in Austin this weekend to host a few events—and you’re invited!

On Friday, March 9, at 2:30 p.m. at The Belmont, Syrkett will interview Kyle Hoff, co-founder and CEO of furniture upstart Floyd, about how direct-to-consumer brands are (or aren’t) disrupting the home goods marketplace. Find out if clever transit ads and American-made products are enough to upend an industry.

Then onto one of our most-read subjects of late, the fierce competition for Amazon’s next home base. While the location of HQ2 may still be under wraps, one thing is certain: The new headquarters will have a big impact on whichever city Amazon chooses. Syrkett will host a roundtable discussion with Nancy McFarlane, mayor of Raleigh, and Sylvester James Jr., mayor of Kansas City, about the real cost of wooing corporations—and what benefits their headquarters could have for cities. Catch the discussion at the Hilton on Saturday, March 10, at 2:30 p.m. (only SXSW badge holders may attend).

If you need a break from the action, you can always hang back at The Belmont, which Vox Media is turning into The Deep End—its South by Southwest home—from Friday, March 9 to Sunday, March 11. There, catch live podcast tapings from our brethren at Recode, The Verge, and Vox.com, see some bands perform, and grab Eater-approved grub.

Our book Best of Curbed will be available all weekend long at The Belmont.

The Deep End is also where you can pick up a copy of our stellar new book, Best of Curbed. A compilation of our longform highlights—including a story tracking the rise of retro conversation pits in the digital age and a closer look at Tiny House Hunters, penned by Roxane Gay—Best of Curbed will be available at The Belmont all weekend long.

And of course, be sure to head over to Curbed Austin for the latest on what to expect in the city during SXSW, from street closures and public transportation to the ultimate list of places to visit (and things to do) while you’re in town.

Vox Media’s The Deep End is made possible by sponsor Great Clips.
