Fantastical glass-walled swimming pools never fail to entice (or frighten), and this latest example in São Paulo is no exception. Designed by local practice Fernanda Marques Arquitetos Associados, the residence in question, called Panorama, is all the more impressive because it’s actually an apartment—albeit a huge one, clocking in at 477 square meters or about 5,134 square feet—in Vila Nova Conceição, an upscale neighborhood south of the city.
The two-story flat boasts a soaring double-height living room that is essentially flanked by glass walls on three sides, one of which reveals the side of a long, narrow swimming pool placed outside. Thick glass walls act as a showcase for the inside of the pool, which the clients were keen on incorporating into their living area. It can be accessed from the second floor or through the garden.
Still, the pool isn’t the only showstopper. A full-height glazed section also frames a lush garden wall outside, creating the sensation that the space is enveloped by a jungle, when in fact, it is surrounded by dense urban life.
The master suite is placed on the second floor mezzanine and overlooks the dramatic living room below, taking advantage of its vantage point—but it can also be closed off by way of accordion panels. Additional bedrooms, a library, and bathrooms are also located on this level, with the dining area and kitchen rounding out the lower level. Take a look.
