Twenty years ago, Target enlisted Michael Graves to help it revamp its retail strategy, which was lagging behind big box stores like Walmart. The architect, known for his postmodern buildings, ended up designing more than 800 products over the course of 15 years, spanning everything from toasters to toilet brushes.
Graves might have been the first big-name designer to partner with the Minnesota-based retailer, but he was far from the last. In 20 years’ time, Target has partnered with more than 175 designers including Philippe Starck, Rodarte, Missoni, John Derian, and Marimekko on limited edition collections of products across categories.

To celebrate this anniversary, Target just announced it’s bringing back the best of its collaborations with the Target Anniversary Collection, which will include select pieces from 20 designers’ original lines. The collection will feature nearly 300 items from home goods to kitchenware to apparel that will cost anywhere from $7 to $160.
The collection will be available at all Target stores on September 14. And for all the Target fanatics out there, there will also be a book and documentary coming this fall to fete this milestone.
