Airy modern house features translucent mesh facade

Playing with light and shape

This light-filled home in Bangkok is a breath of fresh air in the form of a house. Designed by BodinChapa Architects, the home plays with shape, illumination, and translucency to create a gorgeous modern design.

The renovation project retained some of the original building’s frame, but BodinChapa updated the space to maximize natural light and infuse playfulness throughout. One highlight? The translucent second-story terrace that sits atop thin poles and comes wrapped in operable mesh panels.

The ethereal terrace hints at what’s happening inside, where the designers created an airy space with soaring ceilings, lots of windows, and curved details to soften up the brick and concrete used throughout. The living room features white brick and pale wood floors; a floating staircase zig zags against the wall, leading to a mezzanine that overlooks the spacious area.

The rest of the house follows suit with pale wood, arched doorways, rounded windows, curves that lend even the concrete-filled dining room a lightness.
