Yes, above, you see a house in Conifer, Colo. that was designed to look like a whale. Really. The funniest part? The realtor doesn't even acknowledge that little detail.

While sporting a horrific (and laughable) exterior, this property does have a few positives: it provides 4,049-square-feet, in which you will find three-bedrooms and 3.5-bathrooms, and 38-acres of almost untouched acreage. And though it's not a great place to live if you suffer from Cetaphobia, it is a great choice for people who want to be green, since this home is solar powered and completely off the grid. So, what is this creature listed at? Just $915,000.

This Phoenix foreclosure was, sadly, ruined by graffiti. Ugly House Photos "paints" (my attempt at a joke) a good portrait of the situation: "Graffiti scares away real buyers. Then you're left with cash investors paying below market price. This then lowers the price for the neighborhood. Thanks for nothing. Hope it was worth it." Anyone in the area looking for a big project?

In this new weeklong series, Curbed National editor Sarah Firshein tosses guest editor Cole Perkins, the force behind luxury real estate blog Lavish Property, one question a day. Can a 13-year-old provide sound, sane, and salient advice about the ins and outs of real estate and design? Let's find out!

"Hey Cole, can you recommend any good deals on waterfront properties in vacation/summer towns close to NYC? I'm sick of renting—we're looking for an investment piece that won't break the bank, one that we can use for years to come."

Though I am not sure exactly what your definition of "affordable" is, I think we can all agree that the Hamptons are not cheap--especially when it comes to homes right on the water. So, to find a good deal, you'll have to check out other towns on Long Island. While scouring for properties, I did come across this townhouse in Atlantic Beach. The home, complete with three-bedrooms and three-bathrooms, is situated in Pebble Cove, a gated, oceanfront community with a pool and pool house. And at just $1.3M, this place is definitely priced well for beachfront living, even though the interiors do need a little work to bring them up to the "luxurious" standards you desire.

Today, The Wall Street Journal features the remarkable Searles Castle in the Berkshires as their House of the Day. Created with a French Chateau in mind, this McKim, Mead & White project took three years to complete, and is still stands magnificent about 120-years later. The estate is situated on 64 lush acres that include 1,000-feet of waterfront, beautiful gardens, a barn, a tennis court, and a basketball court. Inside, you'll enjoy the home's meticulous details and overall "grand" feel. But what is really impressive about the place is its size: 40,000-square-feet in 40-rooms. So, how much will it cost to live like a king? Well, $12.5M, which, actually, isn't a bad price considering all of the features.

This week on Curbed, I will visit one chain furnishings store a day and choose $500 worth of items. Though I am no design expert, most people do say I have great taste?

Though this couch may be a little vivid for my taste, I do love color. Every room needs color, and the Klippan loveseat from Ikea definitely provides that, what with large white polka-dots randomly placed over a bright red fabric. Price? Actually, very affordable: just $229.

Also priced very well is Ikea's Skruvsta swivel chair, at $149. The chair is quite simplistic, not taking up to much "visual space." And because this piece complements the Klippan loveseat perfectly, you can have great seating in your living room for under $400!

In this series, I will showcase a spectacular room or outdoor area each day, and give you five reasons why I love it.

Photos via Windermere
1: Well, today, it's actually "Photos I Like." I couldn't just pick one room of this house, I love it all. Why? Becuase it feels very cozy and comfortable. This is definitely a place that I could totally "veg out" and relax in.

2: Though thoroughly renovated with high-end appointments, the Craftsman-style abode still offers old-world charm and original details throughout.

3: The home has a neutral color scheme. Like Curbed Seattle editor Kelly points out, neutral colors are in right now. I just adore the clean and fresh look it has, and could truly picture myself living here.

4: They didn't forget the facade. Many older properties have great interiors, but their exteriors are left unkept. The owner of this jewel fixed up the front yard and facade beautifully.

5: This home offers sweeping water views, which is a must have (for me, at least).
