Cape and Islands Breweries, Wineries and Distilleries, July '14

View as Map

Booze lovers, rejoice! It's time to update Curbed's handy guide to breweries, wineries and distilleries on the Cape and Islands. There have been some awesome changes - expansions, new locations and such - since we first put together our map of places on the Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket to take a tour, grab a growler and pick up some spirited swag. Best of all, both Martha's Vineyard and Cape Cod gained some new sources of fire water with the opening of Bad Martha's in Edgartown and the addition of South Hollow Spirits to the lineup at Truro Vineyards. Happy drinking, and as always, feel free to write in with any updates. Cheers!
Thanks to Laurel Miller for help putting this together.

This "green winery" has been open since 1992 and operated by the Roberts family since 2007. With a focus on sustainability, they offer reds, white, a lighthouse series and limited release. In addition, they've recently added a distillery, South Hollow Spirits, producing Twenty Boat Spiced Rum from organic molasses and cane sugar juice steeped in spices sourced from Atlantic Spice Company just down the road. Truro Vineyards is open daily for tastings and complimentary winery (meet by the Mulberry Tree) and distillery (meet by the "rum shack") tours. There's also a food truck offering lunch and they host a variety of events, including weddings and a Wine, Art, Appetizers and Music weekly series throughout the summer.

After a May 2013 launch, Bad Martha recently (as in June 2014) opened a brick-and-mortar shop in Edgartown. Located in a recently completed post-and-beam barn on the grounds of Donaroma’s Nursery, the store features a handful of beers brewed on site for customers to sample and growlers for purchase. As an added bonus, ten percent of profits are donated to local food pantries.

"Nice beer...if you can get it" is the motto over at Cisco Brewers. Varieties include Whale's Tale Pale Ale, The Grey Lady and more, including the Woods series, ale aged in french oak wine barrels. Open year round, the brewery (and winery + distillery) offers tours and live music with bring-your-own-food events daily throughout the summer.

The Cisco Brewers had the foresight to make the connection that whiskey is beer that's been distilled and thus, Triple Eight Distillery was born. They now sell Notch ("not Scotch, but rather single malt whiskey from Nantucket"), vodka, Gale Force Gin, Nor'easter Bourbon, Hurricane Rum and liqueurs.

Nantucket Vineyards

Mother Nature refused to cooperate with the founders of the Nantucket Winery and thus, they import their grapes from "the finest growers in California, Washington State and New York." With a focus on fermentation and production, the winery offers Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Port and more.
