As the flagship property of Eleven Experience, the Scarp Ridge Lodge has gone from a brothel in 1885 to a six-bedroom private retreat in 2012. Opened last May, it offers all-inclusive adventure travel experiences you haven't even dreamed about. It takes the beaucoup bucks to call Scarp Ridge Lodge your home for a week since you're required to rent out the entire property (starting at $12,500/night), but once you check-in, you won’t want to leave. The downtown 13,500-square foot property was restored over a two-year period to maintain its original Victorian charm while adding insane amenities like an indoor salt-water pool, cinema, solar powered thermal heating, in-room automated oxygen delivery, private chef and roof top copper hot tub (and on…and on). Choose your own adventure from cat skiing, mountain biking, fly-fishing, rafting or rock climbing – all included with a private guide.

2. The Westin Snowmass Resort

It’s big, it’s a resort and it’s a Westin, which is a good thing for the family friendly enclave of Snowmass Village. Formerly the ghetto Silvertree Hotel & Conference Center, a $55 million dollar renovation was completed in November 2012 welcoming guests to over 400 rooms at two properties. Expect the chain’s amenities and activities you’re familiar with at the main resort, but check-in at Wildwood for a little more slope-side style (warning: it’s bright…very bright). It’s the Westin’s hipper sister with a boutique feel and live music poolside during the summer. Both are located at the base of Fanny Hill where you can ski-in and out to one of the property’s four restaurants and a Starbucks. But, the best part still remains their trademark Heavenly Beds.

3. Basecamp Hotel

Basecamp opened last June at the site of a failed "snowboarder's hotel" in casino-rich South Lake Tahoe, and its fun & thoughtful hipster decor has won it inclusion in our Essential 28 list while making it the subject of our guide to opening a boutique hotel for outdoorsy hipsters. But as much as we've poked fun of Basecamp's Wes Anderson motif, young travelers have loved it. As well, the hotel's camaraderie-building common areas, such as its community dinners, fire pits, and hot tub, have built up a reputation for starting real connections.
